The Annual General Meeting of RALA will be held on Monday, 24th Nov, at 6.00, at the Vestry, behind St Lukes Church, Sydney St, SW3. All Leaseholders are welcome.
Following the retirement of John McKerrow, RALA is still seeking a qualified accountant. Preferably, but not essentially, a flat owner at Nell Gwynn. The duties are not arduous, but will require the odd attendance at Board meetings in the run up to freehold purchase, perhaps six times a year in central London, and the maintenance of company accounting records. Travel expenses will be paid. Please contact Tony Howe on: anthony.howe@aol.com.
A note from RALA Freehold Committee Chairman Anthony Howe
Although Fairbriar had until the 30th September to serve their counter-notice, they have done so, perhaps sooner than anticipated, on 18th August. The counter-notice makes no concession in respect of our additional claims to parts of the basement but puts a valuation of £2,327,703 for the acquisition purely for the freehold and excluding the storerooms. This figure is based on the Cadogan Esates v. Sportelli case (explained at the July meeting) and contrasts with their previous counter-notice issued last September when they put a figure on the freehold of £900,000. Dear Leaseholder,
If you are letting your flat you may be aware of the new Labour legislation, applicable from Oct 1, requiring every flat let to have an Energy Rating Certificate. I will refrain from commenting on the further waste of money that this entails, as if any tenant would ask to see it, but it is nevertheless required. Belinda in Lettings has kindly arranged a discounted price of around £30 for any flats that would like to participate irrespective of whether the flat is let through the letting office. (I have been quoted £60 outside). If you would like to participate, please ring 0207 5891105 and ask for Belinda.
Leaseholders will be sad to learn that Debbie Laughton’s husband died last week aged 61 of a heart attack. Debbie has worked in the Letting Office for some 20 years and is well known to many of you. RALA will be sending flowers. Letters of condolence may be sent c/o the Letting office.
Kvetta, who again has worked in Letting Office administration for some 20 years, is leaving at the end of August to return to Poland. Kvetta has been a pillar of Nell Gwynn and is again known to many of you. Her work will, for the time being, be done by Belinda. Leaseholders may wish to call Kvetta and wish her well. RALA will make a presentation of thanks.
The Annual General Meeting of Nell Gwynn House Freehold Ltd. was held on Wednesday, July 23 at 6 p.m. at The Vestry, St Luke's Church, Sydney Street, Chelsea SW3. The Board announce the retirement of John McKerrow, who has so ably advised us on financial matters for some three years. Although no longer a director, he will continue to act in a consultancy capacity until the completion of the freehold purchase. The Board are also pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Leyla Aral, a leaseholder, as a Director. Following John's retirement, we badly need a qualified accountant to join with immediate effect. Would the lady, a prospective candidate, who spoke to Tony at the AGM make contact with him?
Documents from the 2007 AGM on 27 November can be downloaded at AGM Archive - the committee presentation, accounts, summary of Moore Stephens (investigating accountants) report and the minutes.
Details of the AGM to be held on Tuesday 27 November at 6pm can be viewed here.
